The Wings of YXE
An ongoing, public art project created by local artist Loch Willy.
From Loch Willy:
“The @wingsofyxe is a public art project based in Saskatoon. In the spring of 2019, I decided to make large hand-carved sets of wooden wings. By the end of the summer, there were 10 sets of wings displayed at various locations around Saskatoon.
The wings are on stands that allow people to pose with the wings to take pictures to share on their social media pages.
The mini-wings came about after several people asked me to make them a set for them to display in their house. The mini-wings are hand-cut and painted. The design is based on one of two sets that were first made and displayed in Saskatoon.
Wings mean different things to different people. Some see hope, some are reminded of loved ones, and others yet see the wings as a reminder to spread their wings and push their boundaries.
The goal behind the creation of the wings was to help create a special moment for someone and to hopefully bring a smile to their face.
If you would like to see more pictures of the #wingsofyxe you can find our page on Instagram or search the hashtag above”.
This art installation will be located on Broadway, by the stone stage.
